Suprising Connection Between Lipitor and Back Pain

Back pain is the number one reason that adults seek health care and is also the most common reason cited for missing work. Four out of five adults will suffer some sort of back pain during the course of their lives.   Luckily, there are treatments that will help to alleviate or lessen the pain and help it from coming back again in the future.

 Lipitor and Back Pain

When you visit your doctor and discuss your back pain with them, you will find that there are a lot of different treatment methods at your disposal.  Your doctor will work with you to find the treatment option that fits your particular condition the best.  There are many basic treatment protocols, with a popular one being Lipitor.

Lipitor is a prescription medication that is given for back pain around the world.  It is a medication that is in a relatively new class of drugs known as statins.  This group of drugs has been used very often in the last five years.  It’s initial purpose was to lower cholesterol, but in the process of prescribing this medication, it has also been found to help with back pain.

Lipitor and back pain go hand in hand because the medication works to block a particular liver enzyme that the body uses to make cholesterol.  It reduces the LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol in blood and helps to prevent heart disease.  In addition it helps to relieve back pain of those who are not responding to other pain management therapies.

Lipitor and back pain is a common association, but it likely isn’t going to be the first treatment that is chosen by your doctor.  Lipitor and back pain are only considered a likely pair when there is chronic back pain that has lasted for more than six months and is causing problems in the every day life of the sufferer.

Lipitor and back pain is not a combination that will work for some.  You should not take this medication if you have kidney disease, muscle disorders, underactive thyroid, or diabetes.  You cannot take Lipitor and drink alcoholic beverages, and this is also not a medication for those who require surgery, or have a blood disorder.

Lipitor, as is the case of any prescription medication, has certain side effects.  You should be sure to talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of this medication for the treatment of your back pain.  When you are fully educated about Lipitor and back pain, only then should you consider using it to manage your pain.
