Chronic Back Pain Medication

Finding Treatments that Work for Low Back Pain Relief

When your back hurts it seems like your whole life just isn’t as good as it used to be. When your experience back pain every little movement seems so big and complicated and you want to feel better right now.  Unfortunately, when you are experienced low back pain you are usually not going to get relief in an instant, but it is possible to find low back pain relief that will get you back on your feet and enjoying life.

Home Treatments

When you are experiencing low back pain that only lasts a couple days, home treatment will often get you through the pain.  You’ll want to start first with ice therapy.  Apply a cold compress every two to three hours for a day or two.  Apply the ice for just five to ten minutes and do not apply it right to the skin.

After a couple days, you should follow up the ice therapy with heat therapy via a hot shower or heating pad.  You can repeat the therapy every two to three hours for a few days.  This will help to reduce inflammation and relax the muscles.

In addition to the hot and cold therapy you will also want to be taking over the counter pain medication to get the best results.  You will want to take an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen.  While you are doing this, you will also want to rest as much as possible for one to tow days.  If you rest longer than this you could actually make it more difficult, so make sure only to take a day or two off.

Teaming up with Your Doctor

When you have tried home care and it has not worked, you should put in a call to your doctor.  He or she will have other options for you to consider.  The doctor may start with a stronger pain medication or even prescribe physical therapy to help you strengthen the muscles in the back and also help you avoid having similar problems in the future.  Your doctor may also suggest that you see a chiropractor, receive acupuncture, or even receive a deep tissue massage to help you get through the period of acute pain.

When your back hurts you want instant relief.  While you may not be able to find instant relief, remember that there are plenty of different methods for you to try that will reduce the pain and hopefully get you back up and moving again in short order.  Try these suggestions or talk to your doctor to help relieve low back pain that is not resolving itself in a matter of a few days.
