Chronic Back Pain Medication

Allegra and Back Pain: It’s Possible!

Allergy problems are very common and two commonly prescribed allergy medications are Allegra and Allegra D.  While many people can take these medications and get relief, other people suffer from negative side effects.   Allegra and back pain are a combination of medication and negative side effect that up to 2% of patients may experience.

This back pain caused by Allegra is usually located in the upper back region behind the shoulder plates.  The pain is usually not serious in most people, which is good news.  But, if Allegra and back pain are something that go hand in hand for you, you should give your doctor a call.

Dealing with the Pain

If Allegra is the only allergy medication that you have found works for you, you may not be able to just stop taking it when you start to experience back pain.  This also doesn’t mean that you need to deal with the back pain.  Instead, the focus should turn to easing the back pain that is caused by Allegra.

Some simple ways to deal with the back pain include:

Over the counter painkillers.  Many people don’t think that they should have to take one medication to relieve the discomfort that another medication causes, but in some situations this is the only choice.  Acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen will usually provide the relief that is needed to get through allergy season.

Cold therapy may also help.  To take advantage of cold therapy simply place a cold compress on the area that is affected.  The cool temperature will usually temporarily relieve the pain, or numb the area.  It’s important to remember that cold therapy is not an option for those who have circulation problems.

Heat therapy is another option.  A heating pad or even a microwavable heat pack can help to provide the heat that can soothe your aching back.  If you don’t find much relief from the heating pad or heat pack you might just want to try a hot shower or bath, as this works better for some patients.

Massage often works to provide relief.  Many times patients just need a good massage to help deal with the pain that is caused by Allegra and Allegra D.  You can have a professional do the massing, or you can simply illicit the help of a friend or loved one.  Massage chairs are also very helpful for those who have access to them.  Choose massage oils that will help to relieve soreness such as rosemary and marjoram oils.
